Crush-Resistant Case For Quick Dissolve Pills In Blister Packs
The Dose Dock is a crush-resistant protective system designed for fragile medication; it utilizes a mechanical friction-lock and a scalable architecture to ensure quick-dissolve tablets remain secure and accessible during travel.
The Dose Dock is a crush-resistant, compact case designed to protect quick-dissolve blister packs. These items are notoriously fragile; they often crumble or lose their seal when carried in a pocket or bag.
This project was a study in functional protection. I wanted to create a solution that shields contents from bending and crushing while maintaining a slim, "everyday carry" profile that provides quick access when it matters most.
The challenge was creating a secure fit for a variable product while keeping the mechanical movement simple:
Structural Integrity: A rigid shell that prevents the accidental activation of blister seals.
Push-and-Slide: A mechanical interaction that allows the pack to be ejected partially for use, then locked back in.
Versatility: A design language that remains functional even when scaled to different brand dimensions.
To accommodate common standards, I developed two primary versions:
The V1 (Single Indicator): Optimized for smaller packs like Claritin® Kids.
The V2 (Double Indicator): Sized for larger packs such as Reactine® Fast Melt®.
Scalable Logic: Both files are designed with uniform wall thicknesses. This allows users to scale the dimensions in their slicer without compromising structural strength.
The inclusion of a passive internal lip was the key to this design. It creates a subtle friction lock that prevents the pack from sliding out unintentionally. This ensures that the contents stay protected during travel, transforming it from a simple sleeve into a secure vault.
Key Lesson: In functional accessories, reliability is the primary ergonomic goal.
Visual Communication: Designing visual indicators (the circular marks) was essential to help users differentiate between sizes at a glance.
